爱荷华中央举办第三届年度美国原住民传统节

爱荷华中央社区学院周三举办了第三届年度美国原住民传统节，以庆祝美国原住民传统月，为学生和社区提供了一个庆祝和学习原住民文化、历史和传统的机会。

节日展示了各种各样的活动，包括传统舞蹈，讲故事，以及正宗的美洲原住民食物，如煎面包和wojapi，一种甜浆果酱。 学生和与会者还可以探索不同部落的信息，包括位于爱荷华州的梅斯克瓦基族，每年8月在多摩举行一年一度的祈祷仪式。

来自原住民骄傲制作公司的表演者，包括来自梅斯夸基族的舞者，分享了尊重原住民传统的舞蹈，同时促进了团结、尊重和文化理解。 “I’m a jingle dress dancer. 我有锥体，羽毛。 It’s an Ojibwe dress made for healing. My mother is a traditional dancer,” said Meskwaki dancer Sophie Shuckahosee. “The dances are passed down through generations, and it’s amazing to be able to express it and be in public when our ancestors weren’t allowed to do that. A lot of people don’t know about Native people, and being able to show that we’re still here and that we have our own unique culture, to other people who probably never met a Native person before, it’s amazing to bring that to them.”

Joe Wright, Iowa Central Criminal Justice Coordinator, emphasized the festival’s educational value. “I think it’s important to focus on this part of our history in America during this month. 尊重这些文化，尊重他们的传统，他们的舞蹈，他们带来的文化和他们带来的食物。 It’s just important to do that because it’s a part of all of our history. It’s important for students to know that and learn a little bit more about that.”
