爱荷华中心的第二学期今年开始有点不同。

1月11日星期四，一股北极天气袭击了该州，夜间降下了几英寸的雪，刮起了大风，造成了为期两天的暴雪天气，许多人难以返回校园。 1月12日星期五，爱荷华中心的工作人员进行了虚拟工作，为新学期做准备。 高温持续在零度以下，周末发布了风寒警告，导致低温危险，最终将原定于1月14日（周日）的入住日推迟到1月16日（周二），并将第一天的课程推迟到1月17日（周三）。

“It is important anytime we start a new semester to get off on the right foot and give our students a smooth transition back from break into school,” said Tom Beneke vice president of student services. “We adjusted, and the changes were positive for both our students and staff.”

随着开学第二天又一轮天气的到来，学生们在周五体验了本学期的第一个虚拟学习日。

“As a college, coming off of COVID we learned that we can adjust and make things work virtually while not taking educational opportunities away from our students,” said Beneke. “Students and parents are very conscientious about the value of education, so we are going to do our best to make sure they get the most for their money while missing as few days as possible.”

Traditional welcome back activities stayed mostly on schedule for the week, with only Monday night’s welcome back social in the Student Resource Center (SRC) being canceled. 周二晚上，校园里最受欢迎的催眠师/心理师布莱恩·伊姆布斯回到爱荷华中心，在SRC上演了一场表演。周三晚上，一直很受欢迎的宾果之夜举行了。 星期四在SRC举行了免费食物日。 星期五晚上6点半到8点半有卡拉ok。

A second week of activities is planned for the week of January 22, with Monday evening being college bowling night at the Family Bowling Center, Tuesday there will be free hot cocoa and an educational human trafficking awareness event in the SRC, a pool tournament on Thursday at 7 p.m. and indoor yard bags on Friday evening at 6:30 – both events will also take place in the SRC.
